About Us
Wadi Rum Desert Home is a travel company designed and ran by local Bedouins from the Zalabieh tribe. During the Covid pandemic, we decided to design a website and digital marketing presence with the help of a media-savvy European friend!
Wadi Rum Desert Home is managed by Abdalsalam, who has spent his whole life working in the desert - he likes to say he gave his first tour at 14 when he skipped school to drive tourists for his older cousin - and loves sharing the Wadi Rum's unique beauty and Bedouin culture with guests.
'I grew up with tourists in Wadi Rum - actually, my older brothers had some of the first camps open to tourists in Wadi Rum, so it's always been a big part of my life. First I worked as a guide for horses whilst I was learning English - this was really hard, because I had to walk with horses for hours a day. Then I worked as a hiking and climbing guide - I would take a group for 6 days around the desert, bring them back to the village for one day, and then take another group around the desert... I got to know the desert so well, learn English, and most importantly, learn how to be a great guide.

I later managed to buy a jeep and started working with my brothers, cousins and nephews (including Faraj, Awdeh, and Hamzeh) to give visitors tours of the desert, take them to our camp and to sleep under the stars. At the end of 2020 I worked with a friend to make a website and digital marketing plan for my business.
I've been working as a guide in Wadi Rum for 10 years now. It's very special to live somewhere so beautiful and be able to share this beauty with guests. I also love hearing stories from guests about their lives, countries, cultures, and other places they've travelled. I wouldn't change my job for the world!"
